XP's National Maintenance Week tips

Did you know that it’s National Maintenance Week here in the UK?

To mark the occasion, we’re sharing some of our sage advice for making sure your property’s plumbing, heating and drainage systems are in great condition!

Got gas? Don’t take chances. Get your gas appliances - heaters, cookers, boilers and everything else - serviced regularly by a Gas Safe registered gas professional like XP Plumbing and Heating. We recommend a minimum of once a year.

For more about gas safety in the home, read our guide.

Treat your boiler to some TLC! Your boiler works hard for you and your family all year round, so why not return the favour?

We recommend getting your boiler serviced annually. And from XP Plumbing and Heating, that means a comprehensive health check from one of our experienced, Gas Safe registered engineers - along with priceless peace of mind that your boiler will be running smoothly and keeping you warm and cosy throughout the winter months.

Know where your stopcock is? If not, find out! You never know when you’ll need to use it.

And even if you answered yes, when did you last check it’s actually working?

We recommend testing your stopcock every six months or so. Like most mechanical things that aren’t in regular use, they can seize up. Don’t wait until you need your stopcock most to find out it’s not working!

For more on stopcocks and their importance, read our article.

Wrap your pipes up warm. Winter’s just around the corner, so sooner or later that means freezing weather too. Get any outdoor or exposed pipe work insulated, and check that any insulation you already have in place on your pipes is in good nick.

Don’t wait until the freezing weather arrives to find out your pipes weren’t properly protected!

Give your radiators the once-over. Noticed that a particular room feels colder than it used to? Or maybe you can feel cold spots on the radiator itself? It probably needs ‘bleeding’, a reasonably simple process that allows trapped air to escape, helping the radiator work more efficiently.
