Gas appliances in particular must be serviced regularly, and only by a qualified, Gas Safe registered engineer like XP Plumbing and Heating. We recommend having your gas appliances inspected by a Gas Safe professional an absolute minimum of once a year.
Remind yourself of where your stopcock is before the colder weather, and the risk of frozen and burst pipes, arrives.
Already know where yours is? Don’t stop there - test it to make sure it’s still in good working order. Don’t wait until you really need your stopcock to discover it’s seized up!
For more on stopcocks, see our article on their importance.
Insulate your pipes, and check that any existing pipe insulation is still in place and in good order. Effective insulation for your pipes is the best way to protect them against an unexpected cold snap.
Pay particular attention to pipes that are outside your home, or in attic and loft spaces, where they’ll likely be exposed to lower temperatures.
